Frequently Asked Questions
1. Does getting a tattoo, hurt?

Yes, tattoos hurt, but pain is relative and it how much it hurts you really depends on you and your body make up.  Every person has a different pain threshold.  Something in one area may hurt you more than the people that you are asking who have been tattooed in the same area of the body.  On the same note, it may also hurt less.  Our bodies are all different as well as our mindset and we are all as different as the tattoos we choose to put on our bodies.

2. How much does the tattoo I want cost?

There are several factors that go into the cost of a tattoo.  First, is the location of the tattoo?  The location is important to you and should please your eye, but keep in mind; we have different types of skin in different areas that can take longer to tattoo.  Next, is the size of the tattoo?  This is pretty obvious.  The bigger it is, the longer it will take.  Finally, there is the subject matter of the tattoo and how much detail is involved.  The amount of detail will definitely help determine the length of time that it will take to place the tattoo on your skin.

3. What are the age requirements for getting a tattoo or piercing?

For you to come in and get tattooed and pierced by Angie Leaf, by yourself, you have to be 18 years of age.  That is the minimum, no matter what.  You have to bring in a state issued ID to prove this, or a passport.  The minimum age that you can be tattooed or pierced, with a parents presence and approval, is 16.  There are no exceptions.  Lastly, for anything being tattooed or pierced around the genitalia region of the body, you have to be 18 years old.  There are no exceptions to this rule either.

4. What kind of identification do I need to bring with me to be tattooed or pierced?

If you are over the age of 18, all you need to have with you is a federal or state issued ID, or a passport.  School ID’s or any other ID you might receive from other businesses or organizations, does not suffice.  If you are visiting from another country, your passport or national ID from your country of origin will be fine.  If you are 16 or 17, you and your parent (PARENT ONLY! NO AUNTS UNCLES, COUSINS, ETC.!) must both have a federal or state ID, including a passport, as well as a birth certificate with both the child and parent’s name included on the certificate.

5. What should I do, to prepare for getting tattooed or pierced?

The best preparation begins with a good night’s sleep the night before you come in to be tattooed and pierced.  You also need to make sure that you eat a meal before you come in to get work done.  PLEASE, PLEASE, come in after taking a shower and deodorizing especially, if it involves your genitalia.  You need to dress comfortably and appropriately for the tattoo or piercing.  What this means is, you need to wear loose fitting, old clothes, that you don’t mind getting ink or blood on, and underwear, to cover parts you don’t want exposed and parts that Angie Leaf does not want to see.  Finally, be on time.  If you are going to be late, fifteen minutes or more, please call the shop at (702) 489-5323 and let Angie Leaf know you are running late.

6. How long does the tattoo take to place on the skin?

The length of time that the tattoo will take is determined by several factors.  First, the size of the tattoo in question will determine the length of time.  For example, if we are talking about an entire arm, the average amount of time can range in between 20 and 40 hours to completely finish the entire arm.  Second, the detail of the piece is a strong factor in increasing or decreasing the amount of time involved in your tattoo.  For example, a Celtic knot, 4 inches by 4 inches, will take a lot longer than a heart or flower the same size.  The detail involved in the knot will increase the amount of time, sometimes even double it.  Lastly, you, and how well you sit in the chair while having the tattoo placed will strongly determine how long it will take.  If you have to take frequent breaks or move a lot, it can make, even the smallest piece, take a lot longer to place on your skin.

8. How do I start the process of getting a tattoo by Angie Leaf?

If you know what you would like to get tattooed, the process really begins with you coming into the shop to see Angie with the artwork that you would like to get tattooed.  If you would like something completely custom, please, come in and bring in several examples of things you would like to incorporate into the piece, but please call ahead and schedule a time for a consultation, that way, Angie can spend some time with you going over what will be required for your piece.  Also, for custom work, please bring with you a cash, nonrefundable, deposit that will go towards that artwork, but be credited towards your first sitting for your tattoo.

9. Can I bring my friends and family with me while I get my tattoo or piercing?

Yes, you can bring someone to come with you and see you get tattooed and pierced, or for moral support, but please keep in mind that space is limited.  Only one person can sit with you and our lobby does not support a lot of people.  Plus, remember, that if you are getting a larger piece, your friend or family member will be sitting there for a long time and may get bored.  In those instances, it might be better for them to come in at the end of the tattoo procedure.

10. Can I bring my children into the tattoo shop?

We do not allow small children under the age of 14 into the shop at all.  There are several reasons for this.  First and foremost, the environment of a tattoo shop may not be healthy for a child to be in.  Children are more susceptible to things than adults, and although the shop is kept sanitary and in some instances completely sterile, children can still get things from other people in such a tight environment, just like in the waiting room of a hospital emergency room.  For this reason alone, the Clark County Health District has prohibited children under the age of 14 from being in a tattoo or piercing shop.  The other reason for not bringing children into our shop is because the tattoo shop is an adult environment, much like an R rated movie.  The language can be coarse and about adult subject matter.  Plus, the areas of the body that are being tattooed or the subject matter of the tattoo, may not be what you would want your child to be exposed to, so please, just leave the kids at home.

11. Am I allowed to have a few alcoholic beverages or take drugs before I go through a tattoo procedure?

The answer to this is absolutely NO!  In fact, if for any reason we suspect that you have been drinking alcohol or taking drugs, Angie Leaf can and will refuse to do the tattoo on that day.  What this means is, if you have put a deposit on the tattoo, that you will have to reschedule your appointment, and you will forfeit the deposit amount.  So, the next appointment will not have a credit for the deposit.

12. Is there risk of infection from getting tattooed or pierced?

Yes, just like any instance where you have exposed your skin, whether through a simple cut or surgery, there is always a risk of infection afterwards.  The healing process is where the infection occurs though.  Angie Leaf uses only sterile, one use needles as well as sterile and sanitary equipment.  For this reason please download the healing instructions by clicking here and follow them.  This will definitely help prevent you from getting the tattoo or piercing infected.

13. Can I go out in the sun or swimming after being tattooed and why?

We suggest that you do not do either while healing the tattoo.  While healing the tattoo, direct sunlight on the tattoo can definitely, affect the tattoo looking the way you want it, but can also have adverse affects on your health.  Also, if you use a tanning bed, we recommend that you refrain from doing so for at least two months after getting the tattoo.  When you do start going into the sun again or tanning in a tanning bed, use a sun block of at least SPF 30 on the tattoo, to keep it from fading or changing the appearance of your tattoo.  When it comes to swimming, you must wait at least two weeks, or at least until there is no longer any scabbing on the tattoo, to keep your tattoo looking fresh and prevent any risk of infection.

14. Can I get tattooed or pierced if I am pregnant?

No, you cannot get tattooed or pierced if you are pregnant.  The processes could affect your unborn child.  We will not take the risk.
